Jock of the Bushveld Private Concession is a private safari area within the southern part of Kruger National Park. It covers about 6,000 hectares and is named after the famous dog from Sir Percy FitzPatrick’s story. The concession is known for being the first private concession in Kruger, offering luxury lodges and an authentic bush experience while reflecting local Zulu and Shangaan culture.

There are two main lodges, the Jock Lodge with twelve thatched suites and private decks, and Fitzpatrick’s at Jock, which is smaller and ideal for families. On-site amenities are limited; there are restaurants and a small gift boutique, but no banks, ATMs, fuel stations, or conference venues so planning ahead is required.

Guests can enjoy morning and evening game drives with rangers, guided bush walks, bird watching, and spa treatments.

You’re likely to see a wide range of wildlife including elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hippos, various antelope, monkeys, baboons, bats, snakes, spiders, scorpions, and bushbuck.

Safety is important: always follow ranger instructions, keep a safe distance from animals, and store food securely. Fires must be handled carefully, and although malaria risk is low in winter, it’s advised to take precautions during the rainy season.

Self-driving is not allowed in the private concession, and check-in/out times should be confirmed with the lodge, with late arrivals communicated in advance. The concession is focused on conservation, keeping the environment intact while letting guests experience the bush fully.
