Kapama Game Reserve is a private wildlife reserve in Limpopo, right next to the Greater Kruger National Park. Kapama is great for close-up elephant experiences and offers plenty of opportunities to spot both large and small wildlife while staying in comfortable accommodations.

The reserve doesn’t have banks, ATMs, shops, or fuel stations, so you need to plan ahead.

Activities include twice-daily game drives, bush walks, photography safaris, and spa treatments, all guided by experienced rangers.

It covers 13,000 hectares and is best known for offering a Big Five safari experience, including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.

Wildlife you might see ranges from the Big Five to bushbuck, monkeys, baboons, snakes, scorpions, bats, and a variety of insects and spiders.

It’s important to stay with your guide on drives, follow all safety instructions, and avoid feeding or approaching animals. Night-time walks without a guide are unsafe, and you should always respect the lodge rules and ecological environment.

There are four main lodges—Kapama River Lodge, Kapama Karula, Kapama Buffalo Camp, and Kapama Southern Camp—each offering a mix of luxury or tented experiences.

Standard check-in is from 2 pm and check-out by 11 am, with late arrivals needing prior notice. Open fires are generally not allowed, and malaria medication is recommended between October and April.
