Sabi Sabi Game Reserve is a private wildlife reserve located in the Sabi Sand Wildtuin, which is part of the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa. The reserve covers around 5,400 hectares at the meeting point of the Sabie and Sand Rivers, providing a variety of habitats that support a lot of wildlife.

There are no banks or fuel stations within the reserve, so guests need to come prepared, but each lodge has restaurants, curio shops, and picnic facilities.

The reserve offers a range of activities including morning and evening game drives, guided walking safaris, spa treatments, and cultural experiences with local communities.

It is well known for frequent sightings of the Big Five – lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos – as well as its four luxury lodges: Earth Lodge, Bush Lodge, Little Bush Camp, and Selati Camp. Each lodge offers different experiences, from eco-friendly suites to more intimate and secluded accommodations.

Visitors can expect to see over 145 mammal species, 500 bird species, reptiles, and smaller creatures like bats, insects, spiders, scorpions, monkeys, baboons, and bushbuck, though most avoid humans.

Open fires are not allowed outside controlled lodge areas, and malaria is present, so precautions are recommended. Safety rules are strict: maintain a distance from wildlife, always follow guides, and use lodge escorts at night. Sabi Sabi combines luxury, wildlife, and conservation, giving a full safari experience in one of South Africa’s most established private reserves.

Sabi Sabi is about 450 kilometres from Johannesburg, which takes roughly six and a half to seven hours by car, and access is via Shaws, Newington, or Gowrie gates. Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out by 11:00, with late arrivals escorted by lodge staff for safety.
