Shimuwini is a modern bush-veld camp in the Kruger National Park, located near the Phalaborwa entrance gate along the Letaba River. The name, meaning “Place of the Baobab Tree” in Shangaan, reflects the ancient Baobabs lining the river, some over 2,000 years old.
Situated between the Lebombo Mountains forming a natural boundary to the east and isolated hills to the west, it offers excellent wildlife viewing, particularly for elephants and buffalo. The area is also rich in prehistoric artefacts, making it a unique and scenic spot for nature and history enthusiasts.
